Waffle Wednesday: What do you top your waffles with?

By now I’ve set you up with some solid waffle recipes, but do you have the perfect toppings?
I realize some people like to stay inside the box when it comes to their waffle choices. Maybe you just really like buttermilk waffles, there’s nothing wrong with that. But…how about dressing it up with a new syrup or fruit?
Through out the Waffle Wednesday posts I’ve added new options. However, there are always more! Down below I’ve listed a handfull of other syrups and toppings you can use to mix up your own waffle wednesdays.
Buttermilk Syrup

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes
Makes: 1 1/2 cups
Tools:
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Large pot (syrup will foam when baking soda is added)
- Whisk
- Storage container
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
Directions:
- Combine the butter, buttermilk, and sugar in large pot. Stirring regularly, bring to a full boil.
- Remove from the heat and whisk in vanilla extract and baking soda. The syrup will foam at this point, but just stir down. Transfer to another container and enjoy right away!
Raspberry Syrup

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Makes: 1 cups
Tools:
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Food processor or blender
- Fine strainer
- Spatula
- Storage container
Ingredients:
- 4 cups raspberries, washed and tops removed
- 1/3 cup sugar
Directions:
- Combine ingredients the food processor by pulsing until smooth.
- Pour syrup through a fine strainer and discard seeds.
- Transfer to a storage container and enjoy right away on buttermilk waffles!
Cinnamon Vanilla Cream Syrup

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Makes: 2 cups
Tools:
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Small pot
- Whisk
- Storage container
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cinnamon vanilla sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
Directions:
- In a small pot whisk together cornstarch, sugar, and cinnamon vanilla sugar. Turn burner to medium heat and stir in cream and corn syrup. Stirring often, the syrup should bubble and start to thicken. After 10-12 minutes it should reach the right syrup consistency.
- Remove from the heat and stir in butter. Transfer to a storage container and enjoy right away, not only good on waffles but also french toast!
Caramel Buttercream Syrup
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 12-14 minutes
Makes: 4 cups
Tools:
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Large pot
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Storage container
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
- In a large pot brown the butter over medium heat. This means you just let the butter cook on its own for about 5-8 minutes. When it starts smelling nutty, stops crackling and popping, and looks amber in color, the butter is finished. Whisk in both sugars and buttermilk. Bring mixture to a boil.
- Remove from burner and whisk in baking soda and vanilla extract. The syrup will foam, be prepared. Stir syrup back down and transfer to storage container.
- Enjoy!
Preparation time: 15-20 minutes
Makes: 4-5 cups

- Hand mixer
- Medium sized mixing bowl
- Storage container
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
- Pour the whipping cream into the mixing bowl and beat on high for 10-15 minutes or until it forms stiff peaks. Then add sugar to taste, you might need more or less depending on your desired flavor.
- Drop a spoonful on top of your waffles or enjoy on anything else!
